Traditional Korean House 1.0

This traditional Korean house you may have seen in many Korean dramas. However, surely many are not aware of the name of this traditional house. The house called Hanok has a distinctive feature of underfloor heating systems called ondol. During the prehistoric period, ondol refers to a duct system running beneath the stone floor of a room where heat is delivered from the fireplace in the kitchen. It is designed to effectively pull out the smoke that is connected to the chimney.

Another important element of this traditional Korean house is a floored room or commonly called maru located in the center and used for several purposes. This room is usually larger than the other rooms thus creating a cool environment during the summer. The combination of ondol and maru makes traditional Korean homes feel very comfortable for residents in all seasons, both summer and winter.
